Our Origin Story
Every family has an origin story, and ours begins with a night that could have been ordinary—if fate hadn’t had bigger plans for us.
At the time, life had me on a new path. I had just gotten my first job outside of my home in four years, finally taking a bold step toward independence after separating from my first husband. My girlfriend decided this called for a celebration, so off we went to a restaurant, ready to toast to new beginnings.
Enter Drey. He was a server at the restaurant, and let me tell you, he had his own plans for life—plans that definitely didn’t involve settling down. In fact, he was the self-proclaimed “forever bachelor,” perfectly content to keep it that way. But all of that went out the window the moment he saw me.
Watching from the parking lot, Drey didn’t waste a second. Even though he had just clocked out, he was standing at the door, ready to welcome us in as if his life depended on it.
The moment our eyes met, something inside me shifted. I saw our whole life flash before my eyes—a moment so surreal it felt like the scene from a movie. Somehow, I knew then and there that this man was my soulmate.
As for Drey, he didn’t let the opportunity slip by. That same night, we went on our first date—a spontaneous trip to a billiard where we laughed, talked, and felt the world fade away. From that night on, we’ve been inseparable.
But let’s be honest: a love story doesn’t stop at the “happily ever after.” Life has thrown us curveballs—some we never could have imagined. There have been difficult times, moments when the weight of everything felt like too much. But through it all, two things have kept us grounded: our faith and our friendship.
Faith has been our anchor, reminding us to trust in God’s plan even when the path seemed unclear. And our friendship—the way we laugh together, support each other, and show up for one another—has been the glue that holds everything together.
It turns out the “forever bachelor” just needed to meet the right woman to make him forget all about his plans. Fast forward to today, and that instant connection has carried us through life’s adventures—eight kids, homeschooling, a van full of chaos, and a life we wouldn’t trade for anything.
Looking back, we’re still in awe of how God orchestrated that moment so perfectly, even when we didn’t see it coming. Sometimes love doesn’t wait for the “perfect timing.” Sometimes it shows up unannounced, after clocking out, standing at a restaurant door, and changing your life forever.
Meet the Lock Fam!
Amber AKA Mom, Mommy, Ma, Bro
I’m the homeschooling, van-traveling mom of eight who thrives on faith, adventure, and a little bit of chaos. Alongside managing our big, beautiful family, I’m chasing dreams of writing and publishing books while building The Visibility Project, a nonprofit dedicated to making a difference in the world for families affected by special needs and disability.
Dragon AKA Drey, Fat Man, Daddy, Daaaaad
Drey is the rock of the family, combining his love of fitness, loyalty to the New York Giants, and passion for all things cinematic to keep life balanced and fun. Whether he’s cracking jokes or solving problems, he’s always the steady presence that makes everything feel possible.
First comes love, then comes marriage, and 8 kids in baby carriages.
Akalei (10)
Meet Akalei, aka “Mom Number 2.” She’s the mini-me of the family, nurturing everyone while twirling through life with her love for dancing, singing, and acting. One day she’s going to be a phenomenal mom, but for now, she’s crushing the big sister game.
Samuel (16)
Samuel is our incredible high school junior who rocks Autism and ADHD like a champ. He’s balancing his first job and wrestling—because why not tackle life head-on? He’s proof that amazing humans come in all forms, and we’re so proud of him.
River-Leigh (6)
River-Leigh is our little weirdo in the most delightful way. She’s always dancing to her own beat—literally—and her curiosity is unmatched. If there’s a question to ask, she’s asking it, and if there’s a dance move to invent, she’s inventing it.
Pharaoh-Omari (5)
Pharaoh-Omari is our superhero-in-training who’s showing us what resilience really looks like. Living with Autism level 2 and ADHD, he’s been absolutely crushing it lately—adjusting to a big move, eating new foods (thank you, hotel breakfasts!), and embracing all his favorite things: Ninja Turtles, Hulk, and Spider-Man. Watching him thrive is one of our biggest joys!
Phoenix (8)
Phoenix is our resident “starving artist” with a wild imagination and a big heart. If she can create it, she’s happy—paint, crafts, you name it. Plus, her speech therapy success means we finally understand (most of) her hilarious commentary on life.
Abigail (14)
Abigail is a freshman who’s got game—both on the basketball court and in her vintage fashion finds. She’s one of my favorite people ever because she’s always hyping up her mama (seriously, every mom needs an Abigail).
After eight incredible kiddos, we’re officially hanging up the baby booties—no more babies for us! This is the longest I’ve ever gone without being pregnant, and while it feels a little bittersweet, we’re so excited for this new chapter. Watching our kids grow, supporting their dreams, and diving into new family adventures has us feeling ready for whatever comes next. It’s a season of growth, change, and embracing all the joy that comes with a maturing family!
Rainbow-Tal (18 months)
Rainbow-Tal might be the tiniest member of the family, but she runs the show. Spoiled? Absolutely. Adorable? Unstoppably so. She’s the center of attention, the family “bully” (in the cutest way possible), and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The End of an Era
Sevyn-Shiloh (3)
Sevyn-Shiloh is a rainbow-loving dress enthusiast who’s discovering her voice—loud and proud! She’s the sweetest big sister who’s always up for school time (and spinning around in her favorite dresses, of course).
